Aotearoa Art Fair 2024: Booth G15 & U30

18 - 21 April 2024 Offsite
Overview

For the 2024 Aotearoa Art Fair, Gow Langsford will present a diverse cross section of modern and contemporary art practices in New Zealand, and abroad over three reimagined Art Fair booths.

For our curated presentation, Gow Langsford invited gallery artists Sara Hughes, Grace Wright and Virginia Leonard to respond to Frances Hodgkins 1930s oil painting, Still Life in front of Courtyard. Each of the three artists have paid homage to Hodgkins in their respective styles, breathing new life into one of New Zealand's pioneering woman artists.

Gregor Kregar's Infinite Loop (2024) has been created specifically for the Fair; the winding stainless steel form quite literally thinks outside the box set against a sea of neon lights. It showcases Kregar's innate skill for playful and engaging sculptural installations.

Finally, we are proud to present Julian Schnabel's showstopping Portrait of José Luis Ferrer. This painting from 1997 combines oil and enamel paint with resin and was part of a series of paintings that speak to 17th and 18th century full-length portraiture. This monumental work demonstrates the expressive paint handling and sharp eye for image that has made Schnabel a major figure in American art. He has been a leading painter of New York Neo-expressionism over the last four decades, and is also a highly accomplished filmmaker.

In addition to this, you can find us upstairs at Booth U30 showing limited editioned pieces and works on paper.

Outside as part of the Sculpture Space, David McCracken will present a new corten steel work and further into Viaduct Harbour at Market Square, Stories of a Lost Land by the late Paul Dibble sits proudly against the Waitemata Harbour on view until the end of April.
