Sheng Qi
Sheng Qi is one of China’s most influential performance artists and was a key member of the controversial 1985 New Wave Art Movement inspired by rationalism and liberalism.
Although working with different mediums over the past twenty years, these ideas continue to inform his current practice. Graduating from Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London he returned to his hometown in Beijing in 1998. Since returning, he has been selected to participate in the Nippon International Performance Festival and the recent International Center of Photography show, Between Past and Future. Sheng Qi is one of the few artists in China to concern himself with AIDS and is involved in local awareness campaigns.
Qi lives and works in Beijing and his work is shown in number of international collections.
