Auckland Art Fair 2019 | Booth B8

The Cloud, Auckland Waterfront, 1 - 5 May 2019

For the 2019 Auckland Art Fair, Gow Langsford Gallery is presenting new works by Paul Dibble, Karl Maughan and Max Gimblett at Booth B8.

Paul Dibble's sculptures featuring native New Zealand birds and native flora are a recurring narrative in his wider practice. This new body of works is an extension of sculptures presented in his 2018 exhibition The Poignancy of Absence. Bronze huia, tui and kererū sit atop branches of kōwhai flowers that glisten with accents of 24-carat gold. The unique works capture a moment in time and become symbols of our remarkable ecosystem.

To complement the flora and fauna captured in bronze by Paul Dibble, Karl Maughan's iconic landscape paintings embody the abundance of the magnificent gardens throughout New Zealand. Using his own photographs as starting points, these landscapes are then amplified with saturated colour and composed to create fantasy like gardens filled to the brim with flora in bloom.

Max Gimblett is one of the country's most celebrated contemporary painters. Created exclusively for the Art Fair, we will be releasing Lyric Suite, a series of 30 unique screen-prints on aluminium in his signature quatrefoil shape. Combining Max's gestural sweeps of ink and employing various screen-printing techniques to create dynamic backgrounds, these striking works capture the essence of Max's practice.
